Minimal Space, Maximum Impact
While not the focal room for entertaining nor the operation center for culinary creations, the bathroom still is the most used room in the house. It might have the least square footage but it has the highest foot traffic. And your registry is the perfect place to add some luxury to the lavatory.
The Scene
The limited space of the bathroom allows for unlimited style, says Alison Hall, a former editor for Domino Magazine. "The space allows you to be crazier because it's so small," says Hall. "You can pick a theme you really like and take it over the top." Whether it's bold graphics or clean contemporary design, take the time to register for items that will add your style to your restroom.
Towel Time
To create enduring comfort, lay the foundation with towels. For Hall, "You want to think about how the towels will look when they are not being used. From bright whites to Turkish prints with fringe borders, plush fabrics and textures keep it cozy."
Making wave in the dry-off scene are "green" towels. In the past, eco-friendly options didn't offer the same soft feel, but today's technology these towels pass the touch test. "Organic and bamboo fabrics are really big now," says Hall, but warning that "super-plush [towels] can take a while to dry."
After you find the right feel, consult the pros for how many you need of each. Bed, Bath & Beyond's registry pros recommend three sets of each towel type. One for use, one for the linen closet and the one in the laundry. The must haves? Bath towels, hand towels, and wash cloths. The bonuses? Increase the surface area with extra-big bath sheets.
Ask for Accessories
Form meets function with the amenities. The Bed, Bath & Beyond registry team calls attention to the accessories. Dubbed the bath ensemble - the waste basket, tissue holder, soap dish, toothbrush stand, lotion dispenser, and a tumbler - honor the purpose of the bathroom. The BB&B team suggests coordinating sets, but Hall gives permission to mix and match to suit personal style.
Ins & Outs
For the latest looks of the loo, the Bed, Bath & Beyond team warns against following trends. Before creating the registry, establishing a strong relationship with the couple to get a sense of what the couple wants comes first. Sage advice? It's OK to have aspirations. People want to buy you gifts, so now is the time to register for great quality that will last for all the years to come. If you have more than one bathroom, think of keeping one formal and one more fun. If you only have one, then style to your tastes and forget about pleasing others.
But Keep In Mind
How do you make such a functional space personal? Take wall décor from the main rooms into the bathroom. But keep the art within your color palette. Candles add a soothing touch while emitting fragrance. Or opt for aromatherapy with more concentrated liquid scents.
Consider a space saver shelf to keep the shower clutter-free and a hamper to hide dirty laundry. And while it doesn't scream sexy, inspire guests as you commit to stay fit. Couples always come back for a bathroom scale post-wedding, so add it to the list now.
Great presents come in small packages and the same holds true for your bathroom. Don't waitlist your water closet when registering. Keep this small but essential room at the top of the list.
